Project Manager
£52,000 (pro rata) + a range of benefits.

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways have a long history integral to the slate industry of North Wales, and we want to ensure it is remembered for generations to come. We are currently working with the National Lottery Heritage Fund Wales (NLHF) on a major new project centred on our historic Boston Lodge Engineering Works to tell our story, conserve the site's heritage buildings and to give access behind the scenes. In doing so we will be able share the fascinating world of our railway and its social history.

The diversity and quality of expertise within our team will enable our heritage buildings and 'behind the scenes tours' to benefit from an extraordinary range of creative and innovative thinking, as well as deep expertise in all matters relating to our twin purpose of caring for the railway's heritage and also in celebrating our vital role in the Welsh Slate industry of North Wales.

We are looking for a confident Project Manager to lead this ambitious, multi-dimensional NLHF funded project, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, near Porthmadog in North Wales. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator and a strong team player who can provide structure for meeting complex challenges.

What will this role of Project Manager entail?

Working with an experienced team of managers and specialists, as a Project Manager you will be responsible for developing, coordinating and shaping the delivery of this significant restoration and sustainable re-use project, including submissions to NLHF. You will also lead on developing an integrated activity plan covering visitor experience and volunteer engagement.

You will pull together a Project Team to take a number of projects through the project lifecycle. The role will include leading our engagement with stakeholders and key funding partners as we develop the right solutions for the conservation of our buildings alongside an ambitious, wide ranging activity program. Funding sources are identified, but effective time management will ensure that the work is delivered at pace and within the funding deadlines. Further duties will include:

Writing and submitting progress reports and payment claims to NLHF as required and co-ordinating monthly progress reports
Monitoring budgets and expenditure for all the project costs ensuring expenditure is delivered against the agreed cost plan and provide timely concerns and risk alerts as necessary

What will I need to be considered for this Project Manager vacancy?

Proven experience of planning and delivering major projects, with experience of managing project budgets
Good working knowledge of planning, conservation and sustainable development issues
Ability to deliver a project from inception to completion
Ability to plan, coordinate and manage Design Team meetings and coordinate and ensure timely delivery of information and assets to contractors and effective liaison in the team
Significant knowledge of client design, procurement, commercial negotiation and contract management
Strong understanding of the challenges of working within an existing team and within the constraints of the current management structure, whilst being able to demonstrate a clear client focus and excellent client relationship management skills

Although not essential, knowledge of NLHF processes and requirements would be highly advantageous for this role.

What will I receive in return?

We will offer you remuneration of £52,000 (pro rata) per annum, plus a range of benefits including:

Contract: You will be available to work in two phases with a break clause in between with the second phase being dependent on a successful second round NLHF bid. Phase one will commence in April 2020 and end in December 2020 following submission of an NLHF round 2 application.

The break clause for assessment of the application would last from submission of the application until successful receipt of an NLHF round 2 pass at which point phase two would begin. The three-year delivery phase is estimated to take place from June 2021 to May 2024.
